Solander is a Swedish pop/folk/indie trio on the search for higher grounds and deeper forests to explore. We like making simple pop songs but always twist them around one way or another. The songs we write may often sound a bit sad, but for some reason playing sad songs makes us happy.
This is our history
Solander did three ep:s as a band based in Gothenburg from 2005-2007. The first two we have grown to like, the third was "love at first sight". (Ep1: Solander, Ep2: Drunken Early Morning Midnight Touch, Ep3: Hail Sun). We made the music for Lina Bertilssons short movie "En död kråka" (A dead crow). We are also on the soundtrack for the Swedish movie "Hata Göteborg" (Hate Gothenburg). We then released an album on our own in 2008 called Confessional Failures, written and recorded mostly in Malmö. All of these records are since long gone.
In 2009 Solander more or less became Fredrik's solo project. Asked to record an album as Solander for Tenderversion, he ended up spending the whole summer in the studio writing, recording, re-recording, re-writing and inviting everyone that wanted and/or had time to come around and help out. Being able to exchange ideas with other people meant a lot for the final result. Solander's debut album Since We Are Pigeons was released on A Tenderversion Recording (TVR) in October 2009.
In the fall of 2009 we did our first touring in Europe and the metamorphoses of Solander did once again begin. Starting out as a band in Gothenburg and changing into a creative alias of Fredrik in Malmö, in 2010 Solander once again grew into a band and performed as several different constellations before settling into the trio consisting of Fredrik Karlsson, Anja Linna and Mikael Persson.
In the fall of 2010 we did our first longer tour as a trio, a Live Cinema Tour together with Dutch film maker and visual artist Iris Piers. Iris has also made two beautiful music videos for us, a serene romantic one for the the song “Narcissus” in April 2010 and a summery sparkling one for “Flight” in June 2011. In the compact darkness of Swedish winter, we recorded our second album early in 2011 in Studio Möllan, Malmö. The album Passing Mount Satu was released on TVR in May 2011. It is the result of a collective creative process with the songs reflecting our ever on-going travelling through a world of magical mountains, deep woods and golden fields. Solander is currently writing songs for a third album and preparing live shows in the US.
